SENATORS VANCE & BROWN REQUEST PRESIDENTIAL DISASTER DECLARATION FOR OHIO COUNTIES IMPACTED BY SEVERE STORMS

The request covers Auglaize, Crawford, Darke, Delaware, Hancock, Licking, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Richland, and Union counties.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a letter sent today to President Joe Biden and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, Senators JD Vance and Sherrod Brown joined Governor Mike DeWine in requesting a Presidential Disaster Declaration for the 11 Ohio counties impacted by severe storms and tornadoes on March 14, 2024. In their letter, the senators urge President Biden and Administrator Criswell to swiftly act on Governor DeWine’s request.

The senators’ letter reads, in part:

“Tornados in Central Ohio led to significant damage, causing widespread destruction of homes, apartments, and businesses. This damage and aftermath has led to Ohioans losing their lives and several others sustaining serious injuries. The State and local governments in the affected areas do not have the capability to sufficiently respond to this major disaster, and therefore, federal assistance is necessary to supplement recovery efforts.”
